Celebrate National Random Acts of Kindness Day

With a simple act of kindness, Birthday Wishes began in 2002 when three friends came together to support a caregiver who wanted to throw a birthday party for her five-year-old child. Neither she nor the shelter they were residing at could afford to throw him a party at the time.

Twenty-three years later, the mission of Birthday Wishes has not wavered. We continue to believe that by supporting the whole family, especially during times of celebration, we can reduce the long-term effects of stress and trauma caused by homelessness. By supporting the social-emotional needs of both the caregiver(s) and child through our programming, we help strengthen the child-caregiver relationship, which is key to any child’s development and academic success. Our programming is designed to be and is integrated into the shelter support programs of our shelter partners to allow families experiencing homelessness to heal and be successful in forming connections with the community. Without our programming and partnership, most caregivers living in a shelter would not be able to have a birthday celebration for their child.

Birthday Wishes does not receive federal or state funding for its programming. We rely solely on the acts of kindness from our donors. This is why we would like to invite YOU to join us on February 17th in celebrating National Random Acts of Kindness Day, a day that encourages individuals to practice acts of kindness in their daily lives.

Here are a few ways to get involved:

1.)    Spread positivity: Send a tribute card by making a donation to Birthday Wishes on behalf of a friend or family member. We will include a personalized note from you, so they know you are thinking about them.

2.) Make a donation:  Continue our work in empowering caregivers to celebrate their child’s milestones.

3.)    Teach kindness: If you are a caregiver, grandparent, or teacher, teach the power of kindness by having the children in your life make a card or picture for their friends and neighbors. Birthday Wishes has created coloring sheets that can be printed here:
