Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Through Service
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
On January 20th, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., by observing a National Day of Service that encourages volunteerism. Dr. King believed in the power of service to others, emphasizing that everyone has the responsibility to contribute to their communities and make a positive impact. Volunteering does just that by allowing individuals to actively work toward a more just society.
Today, volunteering plays a crucial role in addressing various challenges faced by communities. It provides opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds to come together, promoting empathy, tolerance, and mutual respect for others.
At Birthday Wishes, we are so thankful for our volunteers. We could not do what we do without their support. Every month, Birthday Wishes celebrates approximately 450 milestone celebrations across seven states. With a small staff, we rely heavily on volunteers to build our celebration boxes that are delivered to our partner network consisting of over 200 shelters.
On this National Day of Service, we would like to thank the 500-plus volunteers who have worked alongside us to support the social-emotional needs of families experiencing homelessness. We are incredibly grateful.
