Kids Helping Kids: How Student Ambassadors Are Spreading Birthday Joy

When students become Birthday Wishes Student Ambassadors, something powerful happens: they learn that kindness creates real change and that kids can help kids in meaningful ways. Through lemonade stands, bake sales, supply drives, and peer-to-peer fundraising, their efforts add up to hundreds of birthday celebrations for children experiencing homelessness while building empathy and leadership along the way.

Meet Mary: A Kindness Crew Student Ambassador

Mary first learned about Birthday Wishes a few years ago. She was surprised to learn that many children living in shelters don’t always get to celebrate their birthdays, something she had always taken for granted.

Birthday Wishes changes through Birthday-in-a-Box celebrations, providing everything a family needs to celebrate their child’s special day, from decorations and cake supplies to candles and gifts.

Inspired to help, Mary became a Student Ambassador. With the support of her family, she organized lemonade stands and bake sales and has already raised over $3,000 to help ensure other children feel celebrated, loved, and important on their birthdays.

In her own words:

“Before learning about Birthday Wishes, I took having a birthday party and cake for granted. I wanted to do my part to make sure everyone’s birthday is celebrated. Together, we can make sure every kid feels loved and important on their special day.”

Small Actions. Big Impact.

From our youngest Kindness Crew members to high school and college ambassadors, Student Ambassadors show that leadership can begin at any age, helping ensure every child, regardless of housing situation, feels celebrated.
